Here's a kid-friendly horror story that's spooky but not too scary:
**The Ghost of Willow Creek**
Once upon a time, in a small town called Willow Creek, there was an old, abandoned house at the end of Elm Street. Everyone in town said it was haunted, but no one knew for sure. The windows were always dark, and the shutters creaked in the wind, giving the house a creepy look.
One evening, three friends, Mia, Jack, and Lily, decided to solve the mystery. They were curious and loved adventures, so they made a plan to explore the house. Armed with flashlights and snacks, they set off just as the sun was setting.
As they approached the house, the sky turned a deep purple, and a cool breeze rustled the leaves. The front door was slightly open, creaking as it swayed. They looked at each other nervously, but Mia, the bravest of them all, took a deep breath and pushed the door open wider.
Inside, the air was cold, and dust floated in the beams of their flashlights. They walked carefully, making sure not to step on anything that might make noise. Suddenly, they heard a faint whisper.
"Did you hear that?" whispered Lily, her eyes wide.
"It’s just the wind," Jack said, but his voice was shaky.
They continued to explore, climbing the creaky stairs to the second floor. Every step echoed through the empty house. As they reached the top, they saw a light flickering at the end of the hallway.
“Who could that be?” Mia wondered aloud.
They walked closer, their hearts pounding. The light was coming from a room with an old, cracked door. Inside, they found a small, glowing figure—a friendly-looking ghost!
The ghost looked surprised to see them but smiled warmly. "Hello," it said in a soft voice. "I’m Willow, the guardian of this house. I’ve been alone here for many years, watching over it."
The kids were nervous at first, but Willow seemed kind. They listened as the ghost told them stories of the house’s past, how it used to be full of laughter and happiness. Willow explained that it stayed behind to protect the house and keep its memories alive.
Mia, Jack, and Lily spent hours listening to Willow’s stories. They learned that sometimes, things that seem scary at first can turn out to be wonderful. As they left the house, Willow waved goodbye, promising to keep an eye on them whenever they passed by.
From that day on, the house on Elm Street wasn’t scary anymore. The kids often visited Willow, bringing cookies and sharing stories of their own adventures. And the ghost of Willow Creek was never lonely again.
